Inspiration

During the age of COVID, we’ve moved to a primarily virtual environment especially in the social aspect. Our application gives people a new way to quickly connect with others who share their interests with a quick real-time conversation

What it does

an Android application that allows users to meet and connect based on shared interests and video chat others for a more personable experience.

How I built it

Through VS code, we were able to use the Flutter framework to code in Dart and create an Android application that could be viewed and tested through the emulator. We generated links from Zoom for the video chat feature and uploaded our commits to Github using git.

Challenges I ran into

None of the team members knew how to code in Dart and setting up the framework was extremely difficult. Due to the virtual communication, we had to adapt to the virtual environment. We also had to tackle a lot of bugs which took a good chunk of our time. However, by the end, we were able to overcome most of the challenges.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

As a team, our biggest accomplishment was how well we were able to work together to figure out the solution to a common problem that all of us have experienced. This is our first Hackathon and we were able to create a fully functioning Android application by using a language we had never seen before.

What I learned

We learned a lot more about collaborating and organizing our priorities to yield the best end product. We also learned more about how to create Android applications by learning new frameworks and languages.

What's next for Rendezvous

For Rendezvous, we wanted to add a Login/Sign Up System, a Splash Screen, In-App Video Calls, Location Filter, and use our knowledge of AI/ML for Tone Detection.
