Remove ads on your network the easy way

Inspiration

• Increase the bandwidth of the internet (reduce ads network consumption )

• prevent annoying ads from popping up

• build something that the adblocker wouldn't trace

• save time

What it does

Blocks the ads and reduce/prevent ads from taking up my data. (But doesn't seem to be working with youtube for now, might be a mistake from my side, I'd recommend brave to use youtube)

How we built it

• Pihole (a black hole for python)
• linode to host the server to run pihole
• opendns to act as the DNS provider

Challenges we ran into

Actually the pihole community have a really good documentation so its not a big deal , but still it took me a while to figure things out

No more annoying ads

What we learned

Pihole is amazing. OpenDNS is pretty cool as well.

What's next for Remove ads on your network

• Check with the pihole community to figure out a way to remove ads from youtube
• Run pihole in other supported systems
