Tangram — Logitech MX Actions 's VSCODE + Cursor IDE plugin https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=TristanNguyen.tangram-logitech
What it does
Tangram is a productivity bridge that maps the Logitech MX Actions SDK to the VS Code/Cursor command palette.
One-Touch AI: Trigger "Explain Code" or "Fix Bug" directly from the MX Creative Keypad or the Actions Ring.
Haptic Debugging: Receive subtle haptic pulses on the MX Master 4 when a build fails or when the AI finishes a refactor.
Contextual Dials: Use the MX Creative Dial to scrub through Git history or "time-travel" through code changes in the IDE.
How we built it
We utilized the Node.js Logi Actions SDK (Alpha) to create a persistent WebSocket bridge between the Logi Options+ service and a custom VS Code Extension.
The Logic: Built with TypeScript, the extension registers a set of "Tangram Actions" in the Logitech Marketplace manifest.
The Bridge: When a user presses a button on the MX Creative Console, a message is sent via the SDK to our extension, which then uses the vscode.commands.executeCommand API to trigger AI functions.
The Simulation: Since we prioritized accessibility, we developed the entire flow using the Logi Actions Ring overlay and the Meta XR Simulator for 6DoF testing.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest hurdle was State Synchronization. We had to ensure that the icons on the MX Creative Keypad updated dynamically based on whether the developer was in "Debug Mode," "Chat Mode," or "Global Navigation." We solved this by implementing a status-subscription model where the VS Code extension pushes UI updates to the Logi Options+ software in real-time. Additionally, testing the "Actions Ring" without physical hardware required using specialized command-line flags in the Logi Options+ installer.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully mapped 10+ IDE commands to a single tactile interface. We are particularly proud of the "Dial-to-Diff" feature, which allows a developer to use the MX Dial to rotate through a list of AI-suggested code fixes, seeing the diff change in the IDE as they turn the wheel. It makes refactoring feel like a physical craft.
What we learned
Integrating with the Logitech ecosystem taught us how much "friction" exists in standard software-only workflows. We also gained deep experience in cross-process communication between high-level IDE APIs and low-level hardware drivers.
What's next for Tangram — Logitech MX Actions
Universal AI Support: Expanding beyond VS Code and Cursor to support JetBrains and Xcode.
Voice-to-Dial: Integrating the Logi AI Prompt Builder directly into Tangram so users can dictate a change and "dial in" the intensity of the AI's refactoring.
Community Marketplace: Allowing users to share their own "Tangram Profiles" for specific languages
