Inspiration

Against the backdrop of the pandemic, many people have started to move even more of their lives onto their devices. Classes, meetings, and even doctor consultations are all taking place online via applications such as Zoom, Google Meet, and Doctor Anywhere.

However, some still lag behind, unable to properly utilize these applications as they may not be technologically savvy but would benefit greatly from these communication technologies — the elderly.

What it does

Remote2Gather serves as a tool for 3 distinct groups.

1. For the elderly, it is a simple remote that integrates into their home entertainment system and allows them to toggle between their favorite entertainment channels on their televisions, quick-dial their relatives as well as request a teleconsultation with their registered family doctor. Given that the Singapore government is running a national program where each resident will be registered with a family doctor from 2023, Remote2Gather will allow the elderly, especially those with mobility issues, to reach out to healthcare services much more conveniently and efficiently. In the event of emergencies after the family clinic's operating hours, the teleconsultation button will be routed to the nearest government hospital instead.

2. For close relatives of the elderly, it is an app that allows them to set up the remote for the elderly user: their preferred entertainment channels, who is included in the quick-dial, as well as where the teleconsultation routes to.

3. For healthcare services providers, it allows their less technologically savvy customers to connect with them more easily and provide aid more efficiently. Often customers with mobility issues would require house visits by healthcare providers and teleconsultation reduces the need for such trips.
