Inspiration
Our friend group is spread across the world until it is time to celebrate Christmas. We have always enjoyed playing Secret Santa each year, but find it difficult to facilitate. No matter where we all are, we can smoothly facilitate Secret Santa before meeting for the holidays.
What it does
Facilitates the process of signing up and distributing names to each other for Secret Santa.
How we built it
Python and Discord.py library.
Challenges we ran into
Creating an alternative way to get name assignments if the private DM option fails. Asides receiving a private DM, the system can send a message in the main channel that only the required person can see.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Finding multiple ways to send name assignments.
What we learned
How to randomize "roles" and automatically distribute them. How to utilize asynchronous python functions.
What's next for Remote Friendly Secret Santa
Expanding Remote Friendly Secret Santa beyond Discord to be more accessible.
