Inspiration

During these unprecedented times, online classes are the new normal. As college students, we experienced the burden of having to remember all our class timings, assignment deadlines and exam dates. It is not like face to face classes where we can head to classes by following our friends. This is why we came up with Remory-a reminder app focussed on online education.

What it does

When you login to Remory, it lets you create reminders pertaining to a host of options like classes, assignment, projects, or exams. When the deadline approaches, you are reminded about the through push notifications to your computer from the website. Reminders can be edited and removed realtime.

How we built it

We built it using html, css and javascript, using visual studio code editor. We integrated our web app with firebase and stored user data in firebase cloud firestore. We used google cloud platform for sending the notifications. We stored reminders in a realtime database to be accessed easily.

Challenges we ran into

We encountered a range of challenges but learnt how to debug and persisted with our efforts inspite of them. One of the challenges we faced was in storing the user data to firebase. Few other challenges we faced include the push notifications and storage of reminders.

Accomplishments that we're proud of and what we learned

We are proud that, as beginners, this being our first hackathon, we were able to build something concrete and useful by observing a problem and generating a solution. We learnt how to use databases, which is a very useful skill for first year students. We were also able to expand our knowledge of html and javascript. Last but not the least, we learnt to work in a team, collaborating with others to create a practical real time solution.

What's next for Remory-the reminder app for online education

Our future plan includes integrating with a real time database and storing the reminders in it. We also aim to make the app more user friendly and adding a sound notification. We also want to tailor it more towards online education. Finally, we would like to host our app for the world to see.
