Inspiration

My inspiration for this asset was when building my room escape game "One Weird Day" which i was inspired by the classic, black-and-white, classic TV series, "The Twilight Zone". For one of the rooms in that game, I created the Monster TV collection. Each TV delivered a clue in their unique style. The clue would either reveal their own number/position or another TV's number/position to obtain the five digit code needed to advance to the next room.

What is it

The Monster collection is a plug and play asset designed to easily add interactive, character-driven elements to their world. This asset has four monsters and when interacted with come to life. Fury, who becomes engulfed in flames and pleads for players to help him. Stalker, antagonizes players while he follows you with his gaze. Menace, who lights up with static and electrical charges. Lastly, Handsy, who tries to lure you in with her words, while her hands reach from the TV stand.

Built with

I used Typescript with a simple and modular trigger system, these assets are designed to be easily "remixed" into any world.

Challenges

I ran into challenges in scripting as I am just learning to script using typescript. I barely knew much scripting with code blocks, so it is all pretty new to me and I have been trying to teach myself as I go. So unfortunately, my biggest challenge is not having the scripting capabilities to bring this asset to level I wanted it to be at.

Accomplishments

I am proud of myself for setting the goal of joining this Hackathon, and obtaining the confidence to submit this asset. I know there is so many talented builders and scriptures in Horizon Worlds, so it’s overwhelming to compete in the same challenge.

What I learned

is that sometimes the things that seem they should be the easiest are often times very complicated.

What's next for Remixable TV Monster Collection

I would like to see how other creators with more scripting knowledge, improve and/or bring them to life in their worlds.
