RemindMe

Inspiration

As international students, we have friends all around the world but sometimes it is hard to keep in touch with them. As the timezone makes it difficult to remember when to wish them the happy moments in life. Hence RemindMe was born, to help set reminders depending on your friends' timezone. Now you will never miss another important event.

What RemindMe does

RemindMe helps you set a reminder for your friend's birthday based on their timezone and will remind you as soon as your friend's day starts. Want suggestions on what to wish your friends, RemindMe has it covered through OpenAI suggestions. Maybe you need a reminder in 15 minutes to call your friend, RemindMe also has the feature to create that reminder.

How we built it

We built it using youtube videos, and official documentation of discord.js to build the discord bot from scratch. We also had a similar approach to using Twilio API and OpenAI API.

Challenges we ran into

We had never used Node.js before. This was a learning curve for us. We also had never used discord.js or ever built a discord bot before this. So we started from scratch by reading through documentation and watching videos. We had also never used OpenAI API and Twilio API before.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we were able to create the bot with technologies and frameworks that we have never used before. We are proud to have enjoyed the process and compete.

What we learned

We learned a lot about NodeJS and a lot of the different frameworks and libraries. We learned about APIs and using different APIs

What's next for RemindMe

We plan to expand the features in terms of different types of events. We will also implement email API to send email reminders. We also hope to integrate a database to save users information and have logins to be able to access your account from anywhere.
