Inspiration
I wanted to create a tool that makes staying on top of daily tasks less stressful and more motivating. Many people, myself included, struggle with forgetfulness, scattered notes, or feeling overwhelmed. I imagined an app that’s simple, beautiful, and genuinely helpful in keeping life organized.
What it does
Remindly helps people stay consistent with their tasks, habits, and routines. It offers flexible reminders, dedicated reminder types with emojis and colors, motivational streaks and charts, and timely notifications. With widgets and a clean liquid-glass UI, it blends seamlessly into daily life while encouraging users to stay on track.
How we built it
I built Remindly using SwiftUI for a modern, clean interface and integrated Core Data + CloudKit for reliable data management and sync, and used RevenueCat for in-app purchases. The reminder engine was designed to be flexible, allowing both simple and detailed setups. I also added streak tracking, performance analytics, and widgets to keep users engaged beyond the app itself.
Challenges we ran into
Balancing simplicity with flexibility was tricky. I wanted the app to feel approachable but still powerful. Designing charts that were both motivating and easy to understand required iteration. Getting notifications right was also a challenge, as they had to be timely but not overwhelming.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud of creating an app that feels delightful to use every day. The liquid-glass inspired UI sets it apart, while features like emojis, colors, streaks, and charts make productivity feel less like a chore. Most importantly, early users have told me it’s genuinely helping them stay consistent.
What we learned
I learned how important design is in building trust; people won’t stick with a productivity app unless it feels easy and enjoyable. I also realized that motivation tools like streaks and charts can make a big difference in helping people stick to routines.
What's next for Remindly
I plan to add collaborative reminders for families, friends, and teams, smarter insights powered by on-device intelligence, and more engaging widgets. The goal is to make Remindly not just a reminder app, but a personal assistant for building an organized and motivated life.
