Inspiration

In this hectic world that is full of distractions, you need a way to remember things. Even though there are reminder apps on your phone and the web, there aren't really any desktop apps. Using a phone app can lead to using social media instead of working on what you need. This can lead to poor mental health because of increased stress from procrastination. That's why I wanted to create a reminder desktop app that is easy to use and isn't a distraction.

What it does

It is a simple reminder app that lets the user put their reminders.

How we built it

I created the app using python for both the back and front end. It is only a command-line interface, but it works.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge I ran into was time. This project's goal was to create a reminder desktop app that was easy to use, appealing and took up very little screen space. The plan was to have the app minimize, similarly to the Facebook messenger app, and stay on the screen to give a small notification. However, I could only implement the very basics due to time constraints and use a command-line interface.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am really proud of is creating an elementary credential system. I'm proud of this because it was my first time thinking about using a credential system. I'm also proud that I was able to get this much done in 1 day by myself.

What we learned

I have learned a bit about implementing a credential system. I hope to learn more while improving this project.

What's next for Reminding

There are a few key targets for Remindite.

  1. Implementing the UI - I created a prototype of the UI but haven't coded it out.
  2. Adding the notification system - I plan to add some sort of notification system. Eventually, it will get to the point where it would be like Facebook messenger.
  3. Improving the efficiency of the code.
