Inspiration
We were frustrated with the normal reminders app we all have on our phones. They are limited in their usefulness and are not very motivating. With goals a big part of our lives, we wanted an app that could be so much more alongside our friends. We designed Reminder's Remorse to give people motivation to become consistent goal setters and create positive habits for themselves. There are four useful components that make Reminder's Remorse better: habit builder, reminder penalties, charity search, and friend exploration.
What it does
Reminder's Remorse not only keeps track of your reminders, it shows your consistent habits, your all time total tasks, and penalizes you by sending money to a friend or charity when you don't complete a task on time. This app is designed to help you stay on top of your tasks and help others in the process.
How we built it
The front end was created using React and the backend with Flask and Python. We utilized CircleAPI to handle money transactions through blockchain between friends and charities. We hosted and deployed our website using Cloudflare pages and acquired our domain from GoDaddy. Our project management and control flow was handled with GitHub. Data was stored using Redis Cloud for fast access.
Challenges we ran into
We were first determined to make a project with a different approach on health and switched mid way through upon discussing a new project idea. We found that using Redis Cloud for our specific parameters was difficult using various strings for storage. Writing all of the front-end components to make the application flow proved to be difficult given the time restriction as well.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to complete our project despite switching our entire idea completely after working on it for a while. Despite it being our first time deploying and hosting a website, we were able to do it quite fast.
What we learned
- How to utilize MaterialUI to create vibrant and transitional pages for our website
- Deployment and hosting using Cloudflare pages
- Acquiring a domain from GoDaddy and linking it to host server
