Inspiration

I love building apps, as an iOS developer. KMP is my hobby nowadays. Shipyard appeared in my LinkedIn and it was the right fit to build my second app for iOS and Android using KMP. The reminder like app was an ideia I already had in my mind, so perfect timing! This project is inspired by TickTick, the most famous app of this genre. And Apple Reminder. Both together can brought heavy and good inspirations.

What it does

This app is allows users to create reminders, if the user creates and account (for now just by e-mail and password, no big deal), he/she/they can sync with up to 20 devides, Android or iOS phones, to keep in sync with your second device, your partner device or your Apple Ecosystem (watchOS and macOS). There are two types of reminders, notifications and alarm (alarm is Premium feature, as some repeat rules are). Custom snooze and Done action are available from lock screens! P.S.: Only reminder of type alarm of iOS has no custom actions for this MVP, but for sure, it is almost done already, it will have too, as Android has.

How we built it

KMP, Kotlin, in Android Studio. XCode to build iOS UI. Both are native in the end. Backend service in hosted in Railway, it uses Github as main service. Postgres to database and Redis for API caching. APNs and FCMs handles background sync for iOS and Android. RevenueCat handles subscriptions (I need to build better UI in dashboard, sorry!). For now iOS has Monthly and Yearly subscriptions and Android has only Monthly (I am an iOS developer and I struggled to setup Android a bit, it will have Yearly too and both will have Lifetime)

Challenges we ran into

APNs and FMCs for sure, handling user creation and linking it with APNs and FCMs is hard! Custom snooze for iOS was tricky, and to wake an iPhone with an alarm with a custom UI is not trivial too, this is a WIP for near future. Design too. Make the UI simple but not so simple demanded days and days of personal testing and changing UI components.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Sync fast between devices. Custom snooze and possibility to edit reminders.

What we learned

A lot, backend wise, using super modern stacks. APNs and FCMs in depth.

What's next for RemindAll

A lot too! I want to launch as soon as possible to track analytics, to undertand if users will use the app like me, if so, continue to deliver minor features, so I do not break the concept of a "reminder app" and not a "complex reminder full of features app". In the end, polish and deliver what users want.
