Inspiration
As busy people, we tend to procrastinate quite often. This was our main motivator for our project, but the issue is motivating ourselves to get work done. This made us look into what would motivate us to do things. One of the ideas was an emotional attachment, which reminded us of the classic game, Tamagotchi. We decided to use this idea, incorporating it with a schedule, and an activity tracker.
What it does
It has commands to add tasks and checks if you're online on Discord. If you are, then at certain intervals it'll message you to get back on task. We also have sprites of your pet to send if you're doing well, or if you're procrastinating too much.
How we built it
We used a Java Discord API since most of us had experience using Java.
Challenges we ran into
Multithreading was extremely hard to implement, but we decided to use a less efficient but still functional implementation instead.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This was our first time building a Discord bot, and we're extremely proud of how much we learned about how APIs work, along with the process of building a bot.
What's next for ReMind
There are still many ideas we haven't implemented yet, but we will hopefully do them in the future. These ideas include more pets, multithreading, and visual ways to see your schedule.
