Inspiration

I am someone who loves to stay organized. Bookmarks, reminders, todo lists; I use them all. However, I never liked the idea of having a whole other app to keep track of my reminders. I always try a new app, saying "it's the one" and that it will fix my procrastination. Spoiler alert! That's never the case. Instead, I eventually forget it's there or I simply don't feel like using it. So I thought, "What if the reminders were integrated into something that I already use every day, so I can't escape them?!" That's where !Remind Discord bot comes in :). Especially with everyone being at home, Discord has become an every day appliance for tons and tons of people. If you are already using Discord, why not set up some reminders for yourself too? Then you can get notifications on both your computer and phone.

What it does

Create a reminder and the bot will send it back to you periodically. You can also view, edit, and delete an existing reminder!

How we built it

I built it using Python and Discord.py on Replit. I also did some planning and prototyping on Figma.

Challenges we ran into

As someone who is not an every day coder, I underestimated this project. There were certain functionalities that I needed help with, but luckily there were mentors! It was definitely fun to review on some concepts and work my problem-solving skills.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I have a functioning Discord bot!!! I learned so much this past day and I am glad that I have created something that I've genuinely found interesting to make, and something that I may explore further after the Hackathon is over.

What we learned

This was my first ever Hackathon and wow :). Not only did I learn a lot about efficiently executing a project, I learned a lot of technical concepts too that I did not know about beforehand.

What's next for !Remind

The thing I love about !Remind is its potential versatility. I would love to add more commands and customizations to it while improving its current functionalities. Eventually !Remind could become a bot on Slack, or be integrated with Google Calendars. A website would also benefit !Remind, where people can edit the bot and their reminders if they prefer the interface. With a project like !Remind, the possibilities are endless.
