About the Project: Remimi
Inspiration:
The idea for Remimi came from a conversation with my girlfriend. She told me, "Please remind me to do this specific thing every day." That got me thinking: why not create a reminder app that feels personal, like it’s talking in your own voice, rather than sending the usual boring "Hey, you have a task" notifications? I wanted reminders to feel alive, engaging, and motivating, something that helps users stay consistent by making the experience fun and relatable.
What I Built:
Remimi is a reminder app where a lively mascot delivers notifications in a personalized and engaging way. Users can:
- Customize notifications to sound like themselves or their preferred tone.
- Create repeatable tasks (daily, weekly, monthly, or custom schedules).
- Sync reminders across multiple devices, ensuring if a task is dismissed on one, it’s dismissed everywhere.
- Choose mascots, animations, and even custom images to make reminders feel alive.
Challenges:
The iOS custom notification part was particularly challenging since I had little prior experience. Getting notifications to feel dynamic while maintaining proper multi-device sync was tricky, sometimes all devices would get the notification at the same time. I solved this by adding enable/disable options in the settings, letting users control which devices should receive reminders.
What I Learned:
I learned a lot about cross-platform notification handling, syncing user data efficiently, and designing reminders that are both personal and interactive. I also gained experience with iOS notifications and learned how to handle multi-device synchronization without overwhelming the user.
Takeaway:
Remimi isn’t just a reminder app, it’s a small companion that helps users stay on track, feel motivated, and keep their tasks personalized and fun. By making reminders lively and interactive, consistency becomes easier and more enjoyable.
