Inspiration
- The overwhelming complexity of managing medications inspired RemedyRX
- We recognized that patients often struggle with confusing doctor's instructions, medical terminology, and keeping track of multiple medications with different timing requirements
- The gap between complex medical instructions and what patients can realistically follow in their daily lives motivated us to create a solution that transforms confusion into clarity
What it does
- RemedyRX simplifies medication management by converting complex doctor's instructions into easy-to-follow daily schedules
- The platform offers two input methods:
- Photo Scan (OCR) - Patients can photograph prescription bottles or packaging, and the AI reads and interprets the labels automatically
- The system then generates clear, timed reminders and schedules in plain language, helping patients never miss a dose
How we built it
- We built RemedyRx using Next.js
- The application leverages AI technology for both voice-to-text transcription and OCR (Optical Character Recognition) for reading prescription labels using Gemini API
- We focused on creating an intuitive user interface with Tailwind CSS for styling, ensuring the experience works seamlessly across devices
- We added animations using Framer Motion
- For the backend, we used Firebase
Challenges we ran into
- Designing an interface simple enough for all age groups and tech comfort levels
- Balancing comprehensive medication data with a clean, uncluttered user experience
- Ensuring the schedule generation logic could handle complex medication interactions and timing requirements
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Created a truly accessible solution that works for patients of all technical abilities
- Implemented a intuitive input method (OCR) to meet different user needs and workflows
- Designed a clean, welcoming interface that reduces healthcare anxiety rather than adding to it
- Built a system that bridges the communication gap between healthcare providers and patients
- Made the service 100% free and instantly usable
What we learned
- The importance of simplicity in healthcare technology - less is truly more
- How crucial clear visual hierarchy and plain language are for medical applications
- That solving medication adherence requires addressing both the technical challenge and the emotional overwhelm patients feel
- The value of offering multiple input methods to accommodate different user preferences and scenarios
What's next for RemedyRx
