What it does
This application serves to remind users to take their medications and/or supplements via an application that supports a SMS notification system, as opposed to the typical push notification that we tend to neglect.
How we built it
We built a back-end using MongoDB and developed REST API web service with Express.js/Node.js then integrated the Twilio Messaging API. The front-end was designed using JavaScript and HTML/CSS. Versioning control was dealt with using GitHub.
Challenges we ran into
Given a limited time and that a lot of us were beginners in coding, we had challenges to learn and adapt to new technologies. Furthermore, there were restrictions to accessibility to messaging APIs that required payments and/or formal requests.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of how far we've had to come given our technical expertise, the time constraints, and budget restrictions to access to certain technologies.
What we learned
We learned various different new technologies such as REST APIs, Express.js/Node.js, JavaScript, and the Twilio API. As well, we learned common software engineering techniques such as working on a team, communicating with each other, development, and debugging.
What's next for reMEDy
It would be great to create mobile application versions for reMEDy to be accessible across Android/iOS. As well, some future improvements of our applications include supporting different timezones and creating/signing into various user profiles.
