Inspiration
Impulsive shopping has become a common habit, leading to unused items piling up and eventually being discarded, contributing to waste. One of us have experienced this firsthand by impulsively buying multiple hoodies that remained unworn for years. A friend of ours had a beautiful sweater she no longer wanted, so we decided to trade—the hoodie for her sweater. That simple exchange sparked a realization: why not create a platform that encourages people to trade items rather than letting them go to waste or selling them for a fraction of their value? A platform where people can trade pre-loved items, giving them new value and reducing waste while fostering a sustainable community. That’s how ReLoved was born.
What it does
ReLoved is a platform that allow users to trade their pre-loved items. Users can upload items they no longer need, browse items listed by others, and arrange trades. The app incorporates secure communication features, clear terms and conditions, and guidelines to ensure safe transactions. It motivates users to embrace eco-friendly habits while engaging with a similar community.
How we built it
ReLoved was prototyped and designed using Figma to prioritize a user-friendly interface and seamless navigation. We focused on creating an intuitive flow for uploading, browsing, and trading items.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge we faced was deciding the trading method that aligned with our values of affordability, security, and user privacy. We want the trades to be safe and scam-free while ensuring that users’ personal information is protected. At the same time, we recognize that delivery fees can often outweigh the value of the traded items, which defeats the purpose of a cost-effective exchange system, therefore we decided that users can arrange trades physically.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have designed a prototype that aligns with our vision of sustainability and ease of use. ReLoved's user-friendly navigation and features ensure users of all tech skill levels can use it while promoting a positive environmental impact.
What we learned
During the design phase, we explored various features and tools available in Figma, which helped us craft a user-friendly interface and refine our prototype. Beyond design, creating Reloved taught us the importance of combining design thinking with a user-centric approach.
What's next for ReLoved
The next steps involve developing the backend infrastructure, integrating secure payment or exchange tracking options, and expanding features like user reviews, and eco-tips.
