Inspiration
We noticed that many useful items and recyclable materials are simply kept unused or thrown away, while other people, recyclers, industries, and makers may need them.
This inspired us to build ReLoop — a platform that gives unwanted items a second life.
What It Does
Users can upload or describe an item, and Gemini AI analyzes it and suggests whether it should be sold, donated, reused, recycled, or upcycled.
ReLoop then connects the item with the right participant, such as a buyer, recycler, industry, or maker.
How We Built It
We built ReLoop using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with Gemini powering the AI analysis and recommendations. We used demo data and local storage to simulate different user roles and marketplace activities.
What We Learned
We learned how to turn a real-world problem into a practical AI-powered solution and how to integrate Gemini into a simple web application.
Challenges
The biggest challenge was building a useful and polished prototype within a short hackathon timeframe, so we focused on the core workflow:
Item → AI Analysis → Recommendation → Match → Second Life
Future
ReLoop could later expand with verified businesses, location-based matching, real collection services, payments, and larger recycling networks.
