## What is the problem your solution addresses?

Young adults want to connect with their cultural background and learn about other cultures but can’t do so. After interviewing 6 people we found that when individuals want to make a cultural food, either from their own culture or from someone else's they run into significant challenges. One challenge not knowing what recipe to trust or where to find that recipe. Some experience language barriers with their parents and grandparents which make it hard to understand how to make a cultural dish. Others run into communication issues where they do not know what “just a pinch” means when their mom tells them to. When individuals want to try out recipes from other cultures they don’t know what recipe to trust and whether it is worth their time to try. Individuals also run into the issue of not having enough ingredients for a dish so they avoid cooking in general.

Why did you pick this solution, and how does it address the problem? ( 150 words)

Food is a great way to learn and explore other cultures without going to those specific countries where that food is made. Reading recipes made by someone who readily eats or remembers a dish from their childhood allows them to learn about the meaning behind that dish and how it connects to their culture. Our solution allows people from all around the world to explore different cultures without having to spend money to travel there. Our app, Relmi allows people to try out recipes from different ethnic backgrounds. People can choose a recipe uploaded by another user and try it out. They can also follow a cultural path that guides them through easy to hard difficult dishes so they can learn more about that specific culture. Each dish comes with a story written by the recipe sharer, allowing the reader to understand the background and nostalgia of that specific dish.
