About the Project
Inspiration
In critical environments like rural clinics, disaster zones, and live racetrack telemetry, internet stability is unreliable. Existing tools fail under weak networks, delaying vital data. This inspired us to build Smart Transfer – a tool that ensures files reach their destination no matter the connection quality.
What We Learned
We explored fault-tolerant communication, data integrity checks, and adaptive compression. We also learned how to design systems that prioritize reliability over speed, and how to secure data transfers using end-to-end encryption.
How We Built It
Smart Transfer uses a chunk-based transfer protocol that auto-resumes on failure, AES encryption for security, and a hybrid P2P + relay mode for flexibility. It detects connection drops, stores progress locally, and resumes seamlessly once the link is restored.
Challenges Faced
- Handling frequent disconnections without corrupting data.
- Optimizing transfer speed while maintaining encryption.
- Building a UI that clearly shows progress and reconnection attempts.
- Testing in simulated low-bandwidth conditions.
Smart Transfer: When networks fail, delivery doesn’t.
