Inspiration
Before releasing a software project, developers can easily miss small but important issues in configuration, security, documentation, dependencies, or Android release settings.
I built ReleaseReady to make this checking process simpler and more accessible, especially for indie developers and small teams.
What it does
ReleaseReady is a GitHub repository scanner that analyzes a project and identifies potential release-readiness issues.
It checks areas such as:
- Security and configuration
- Android project configuration
- Manifest and permissions
- Version Code and Version Name
- SDK configuration
- Dependencies
- GitHub Actions
- README and documentation
- Privacy Policy and Terms
- Potential secret or sensitive configuration issues
- Release-readiness indicators
Findings are organized into clear categories such as PASS, WARNING, FAIL, and INFO, helping developers understand what needs attention before shipping.
How it works
GitHub Repository → Scan → Detect Issues → Review Findings → Fix → Release with Confidence
ReleaseReady is designed with a mobile-friendly interface so developers can use it easily from both phones and computers.
How I built it
The project was built using React, TypeScript, Vite, Node.js, Express, and the GitHub API.
The application is deployed on Vercel and uses GitHub OAuth for repository access. The scanner performs read-only analysis of repository files and configuration.
Challenges
One of the main challenges was designing the scanner so that it could analyze different repository structures while keeping the results simple and understandable.
Another challenge was implementing GitHub authentication and repository access securely while keeping the experience easy for users.
What I learned
While building ReleaseReady, I learned more about GitHub APIs, OAuth authentication, repository analysis, security checks, Android release configuration, cloud deployment, and building developer-focused tools.
What's next
Future improvements include:
- More repository checks
- Better Android release analysis
- Scan history
- Detailed reports
- GitHub Pull Request checks
- More actionable fix suggestions
- Support for additional project types
- AI-assisted explanations
