Relay
When Memory Runs Short.
Inspiration
Dementia is one of the fastest-growing crises in modern medicine with over 500,000 new cases every year. 33% of people living with dementia have multiple caretakers with no readily accessible platform for communication between them.
Upwards of 70% of sentinel events (unexpected occurrences involving death or serious injury) are rooted in issues from communication between caretakers. On top of that, over 60% of healthcare workers believe the U.S. healthcare system is not effectively helping patients and families navigate dementia care.
One of our team members is that caregiver.
Four years ago, as Brian entered high school, his grandfather was diagnosed with dementia. His experiences shaped the 3 problems we aim to solve:
- Relaying info between caretakers quickly and accurately
- Providing a shared platform for different caretakers to log info effortlessly
- Organizing previous logs and provide detailed summaries for family members, caretakers and doctors
Why Relay?
Relay is a shared platform for caretakers, built to stop the miscommunication that causes medical errors or slow progress in dementia care. Instead of relying on inconsistent group texts or handwritten notes, it gives every caretaker a simple way to log daily updates and behavioral shifts all in one place. By organizing these logs into clear summaries for doctors and family members, the app brings clinical clarity in caregiving. This helps families focus on being present with their loved ones rather than getting overwhelmed by the stress of coordinating schedules and medical data.
