Intro
We created a platform, Relatable, that connects students who experience social isolation or social anxiety with peers in a comfortable setting. We match mentees with mentors based on their preferences (ex. hometown, interests, major) and they are able to engage with their peers in a more open atmosphere. Whether mentees are wondering how to navigate their college coursework, hectic schedule, or find job opportunities, the mentors are available to help.
Social Anxiety
We see students who experience social isolation and social anxiety. Being introverted really impacts a college student's experiences. We see social anxiety develop in college students as well, since clubs, academics, and homesickness all come together.
Inspiration
UC Berkeley: “Sink or Swim” -students who are extroverted and proactive benefit from UC Berkeley resources -if students are socially isolated or experience social anxiety they cannot take advantage of these opportunities
Academic: “Extreme Pressure” -Students get lost trying to navigate choosing classes, balancing their work, and finding their passion. -
Clubs: “Exclusive” -Clubs on campus are portrayed as an fun and easy way to make new friends on campus but what they don't tell you is the grueling application and interview process that you have to go through to make it. Interviews are intimidating and high stress environments and often times students just avoid joining student organizations altogether.
