Inspiration

After having so many different travel agencies, airline offers, hotels etc., many applications and websites started emerging to help users find the best offers. These websites became popular and many more of them started being developed, each promising even better offers than the previous ones. Yet one thing keeps missing from all of them: they all return the same generic results. Every user then has to filter these offers by adding parameters or through inspection to match their own preferences, and a travel helper app that understands our personal preferences was yet to be created.

What it does

ReiseWeise is the first travel app that will provide you with results tailored to your own personal preferences. By analyzing your history of financial transactions and after matching with different database averages, ReiseWeise understands your preferences and predicts what travel offers suit you best. The app will distribute a user's budget over different categories of expenses in the best possible way that fits their preferences.

How we built it

The development of ReiseWeise began with the creation of a web application that leverages the Deutsche Bank API to retrieve the user's transaction history. ReiseWeise also relies on other APIs such as Google Maps API and Skyscanner API for flight details. We then built a php back-end and a front-end with Javascript, html5, jquery, css and bootstrap.

Challenges we ran into

From the technical side, we had to get familiar with all of the APIs we used including the one provided by Deutsche Bank over a very short time lapse. And from the practical side, we had to figure out accurate ways of understanding and predicting a user's preferences as well as providing them with a detailed categorized budget for their trips.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are mostly proud of our idea as it is the first of its kind. While all other trip planning or budget advising apps provide generic and standard results to the users, we provide personalized results tailored to their needs and preferences. Another thing we are proud of as well is completing this project and bringing our idea to life within two days of hard work.

What we learned

We have learned more about the importance of organization, time management and prioritization of tasks as well as the importance of team work and task distribution.

What's next for ReiseWeise

There are two aspects which we would still like to improve and develop further. First, tweaking the interface to make it more user-friendly and intuitive. And second, we would like to test with the full API data and actual user information to analyze the performance of our algorithms and improve their accuracy in predicting and satisfying every user's needs and preferences.
