Inspiration
Our inspiration stems mostly from Enter the Gungeon and Risk of Rain, both indie roguelite games known for their unique mechanics and addictive gameplay loops. We aimed to capture the engaging randomness and dynamic action of these titles while working to ensure we produced a functional prototype within the time limit.
What it does
Reincarnated as a Slime in a Colourful Dungeon is a roguelike dungeon crawler where players take on the role of a slime with a few simple attacks, and the ability to colour shift. As they explore procedurally generated levels, they must adapt their colour to interact with different enemies, and pass through various doors throughout the map. While in each colour form, the player has access to a different set of upgrade relics that are collected throughout the game, from reward chests and from slaying the toughest enemies.
How we built it
We built the game with Unity, with the code being written in C#.
Challenges we ran into
One major challenge was designing the dungeon layout to ensure connectedness within each level, as we needed to prevent isolated areas that could lead to frustrating dead ends and excessive backtracking. Balancing development with our busy schedules, including university coursework and reading week demands, was also difficult.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of creating a unique procedural generation system that ensures varied dungeon layouts, while being simple enough for the player to keep track of where they are on the map.
