Inspiration

Calendars have traditionally been tools for productivity, but they rarely evoke excitement or emotional engagement. We wanted to reimagine the calendar as a medium for celebrating life’s milestones—turning dates into dynamic, joyful experiences. The inspiration came from the idea of tangible countdowns (like advent calendars) and how they build anticipation. By blending AI, XR, and gamification, we aimed to create a calendar that not only organizes your events but makes them unforgettable.

What it does

AI-Generated 3D Models: When users create an event, the app automatically generates a 3D model that represents the occasion—a birthday cake, a trophy for an award night, or a suitcase for a vacation.

Countdown Puzzle: Users can opt for a countdown feature. The 3D model breaks into puzzle pieces distributed across the days leading up to the event. Each day, a piece activates, building excitement.

Snow Globe Transformation: On the event day, the completed puzzle transforms into a magical snow globe with confetti and fireworks. This snow globe syncs with the user’s photo app to display spatial memories.

Immersive Memory Bubbles: Users can interact with the snow globe by throwing it into the air, releasing bubbles that contain spatial images of the event, creating an immersive memory experience.

Spatial Decoration: The snow globes can be saved and displayed in the user’s XR space, turning their environment into a living gallery of memories.

How I built it

AI Integration: Implemented AI models to recognize event types and generate contextually relevant 3D models.

XR Development: Used paper storyboarding, figma, Vectary, Spline, Meshy, Sketchfab and ShapesXR to create immersive, interactive environments for countdowns, snow globes, and memory bubbles.

User-Centered Design: Focused on intuitive interactions, like touching, dragging, and throwing, to make the experience playful and accessible.

Challenges I ran into

Dynamic 3D Model Generation: Ensuring that AI-generated models were accurate and visually appealing for various event types. Figuring out the right AI tool to generate atleast decent 3D models as the tech is not completely there yet.

Learning ShapesXR: The new update on ShapesXR helps me create interactive prototype but it is has a learning curve to it.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Successfully blending AI and XR to create an app that’s both functional and emotionally resonant. Designing an innovative countdown mechanic that adds excitement and personalization to event planning. Developing seamless transitions from event planning to memory preservation in XR. Creating a visually stunning snow globe mechanic that transforms memories into tangible, shareable experiences.

What I learned

User Engagement in XR: Understanding how to make XR interactions more intuitive and rewarding.

Emotional Design: Learned how to integrate elements that evoke joy, anticipation, and nostalgia into a digital calendar experience.

Technical Challenges in XR: Gained experience in optimizing XR applications for performance and user comfort.

Collaboration Between AI and XR: Explored how AI can enhance creativity and personalization in immersive applications.

What's next for Reimagining Calendar in XR

Social Features: Allow users to share countdown puzzles or snow globes with friends and family in their XR space.

Expanded Themes: Add more customization options for 3D models and snow globes to cater to diverse cultures and preferences.

AR Integration: Enable users to view snow globes and memory bubbles in their real-world space using AR devices.

Memory Vault: Introduce a vault feature to organize and revisit snow globes as a timeline of significant events.

AI-Driven Recommendations: Suggest event ideas, countdown options, and photo arrangements based on user behavior and preferences.
