Rehand – Smart Exercises AI Trainer

Inspiration

Imagine having your personal physiotherapist… right in your pocket.
Over 1.7 billion people worldwide struggle with chronic back, joint, or muscle pain. Access to therapy is limited, expensive, and often frustrating.

As a CTO I wanted to challenge myself with VLMs and motion AI, and with a highly experienced physiotherapist on board, we asked: can AI make rehab more accessible?
That’s how Rehand was born.

What it does

Rehand turns any smartphone into a smart exercise coach:

📍 Tracks 33–50 body points in real time (on-device, no cloud).
🎯 Gives instant feedback like “slower”, “bigger range”, “straighten your back”.
📊 Sets weekly goals, tracks progress, and can generate reports for a therapist.

No extra hardware needed — just your phone.

How we built it

⚡ VisionCamera v3 + MediaPipe Pose (15–30 FPS).
🧩 Rehand Motion Engine: calculates angles, range, stability, repetitions (IP pending).
📱 Built in React Native (bare) with Swift/Kotlin plugins and a Skia overlay.
🔧 Modular architecture → new protocols can be added easily.

Challenges we ran into

Integrating the AI model with body vision was a nightmare.
Our dev build crashed constantly. After a week of research, trial, and error — it finally worked. That was our big “aha!” moment.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

✅ Bridging clinical know-how with cutting-edge AI.
✅ Clear roadmap toward validation with patients & clinics.

What we learned

🕹️ Vision AI on mobile is tough — patience + debugging is everything.

What started as a hackathon experiment could grow into a real med-tech solution.
