Inspiration
There are so many community bulletin boards on Facebook and NextDoor where people are constantly asking to borrow a very specific tool for a specific project. So our website, CommunityEquipment, is where people can post about their equipment and rent it out to their neighbors. This includes common equipment like a ladder to very niche equipment like dremel tool. Sometimes people have very specific projects like installing a new fence and they need a post hole digger but only need it for this specific project. They can just log onto CommunityEquipment and see people renting their equipment in their surrounding area.
What it does
CommunityEquipment is a forum page for people to upload their tools and equipment for rent to their neighbors.
How we built it
We started to code it in HTML, JS, and CSS.
Challenges we ran into
We are all very inexperienced with HTML, JS, and CSS. So we did not know where to begin. I attended the website zoom call and learned the basics and so we were able to create the basis of a website.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of our brainstorming process and pushing ourselves to think of something new and innovative. We challenged each other to consider new perspectives and issues. Additionally, we are proud of creating a wireframe that encapsulates the basic functionality of the website using Figma. Lastly, we are proud of learning how to use new technologies and completing the hackathon.
What we learned
We learned how to use a variety of online tools. We attempted to create a domain for our website with namecheap.
What's next for CommunityEquipment
Ideally, we would expand Community Equipment so that it is able to collect user input and feedback. We would also like to add a feature to allow owners and renters to communicate with each other. The primary goal of Community Equipment is to bring individuals together in the effort to increase accessibility and foster community relationships. In this way, once Community Equipment is completely functioning, another point of expansion would be to include services as a rentable product.
