Inspiration
Idea name: REFUGEE ACHIEVEMENTS FOR WHOM: for refugees who crossed border, have been picked up by someone and spend few days, then pondering what to do next. Preferably mothers with children, looking to put children and themselves in new country reality.
What it does
CONCEPT briefing: let a mother share achievement, like “hey, I found a soccer club for my boy, or a dance club for my daughter”. System will record time and approximate location, categorize the achievements and propose to other people in a similar way the ATMs or gasoline stations are proposed.
HOW: let refugees continue to use communicators they used to use before (telegram, whatsapp, etc.), make it lightweight (rather just a website/web app, not a phone app)
How we built it
TECH: use NLP to recognize comments with achievements, categorize them, enable matching with approximate geolocation neighborhood and message feedback with suggestions, proven already by other refugees
platform: web front-end like reddit, key-value storage, preferably scaled using AWS, can be used voice / translation mechanisms (option for the future)
Challenges we ran into
Scarce contributors, effort used for sharing concept counts against availabe time for coding. Thus not enough time to arrange a platform to test - few days more is needed plus data to feed the engine.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Discussion on positive final IMPACT (result should have impact to people in need, not just passive observation)
What we learned
Communication is the key.
What's next for REFUGEE ACHIEVEMENTS
coding, prototyping, uncover the World as the better place
What we could implement:
- Map that shows important locations for refugees based on previous data uploaded to platform
- Data is categorized by keywords that are extracted from each new post
- Main classes for data are: Medical Accommodation Supplies And category for other
Platform would provide easy and efficient way for refugees to integrate themselves better to new environments and get on again with normal life. Unluckly had some technical issues trying to host app
