Inspiration
Mental health has always been important, but it's been especially prevalent these past few years. People are starting to recognize the importance of it and are taking the necessary steps to promote positive mental health for everyone.
What it does
Refresh is a "one-stop shop" for mental health". Students can seek out some words of inspiration to get through the day, advice and stories from people their own age who've gone through similar situations so they see they're not alone, and even professional help if they need it.
How I built it
We primarily used website building tools - HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. JavaScript was used to build animation into the website, being used to create the slideshow of quotes in the "inspirational quotes" page.
Challenges I ran into
Not our entire team was familiar with website building and using these languages, and so the ones who were more familiar walked them through the basics of it so they could help with the project. Being our first hackathon, most of our team was also unfamiliar with how to use GitHub and set it up; again, the most experienced member of our team walked us through this and helped us familiarize ourselves with the platform.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Considering it's the first hackathon ever for three of four members of our team, and most of us are beginner coders, we're proud to have created a website this past day. It's a very basic one, but again considering how we're beginners and it's our first experience, we're still proud of what we created.
What I learned
Some of our team members learned HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the first time, others knew the basics, but learned about it a little more in-depth these past few days. Most of us also learned a bit about what GitHub really is, git repositories, and how to use these to our advantage as coders.
What's next for Refresh
We might look at fleshing out the website, adding more resources, and truly reaching out to people who may really need it. Mental health is so important, and we hope the resources we compiled together can help others.
