After the Amazon rainforest fires. It made me wonder how much we humans individually impact climate and what can we do to reduce it.
Do you know how much your daily life impacts the climate? The answer might surprise you.
The average US citizen has a carbon footprint of around 36,000 pounds a year – one of the highest figures in the world. And although we’ve made great strides to address pollution, encourage recycling, reduce consumption, and use cleaner energy – there’s still a significant challenge lying ahead of us.
While the fight against global warming requires cooperation between nations, governments, and large corporations – many of the biggest changes come down to our choices as individuals.
Therefore we thought of how we can help individuals reduce their carbon footprint, helping them with super intuitive design to calculate their carbon footprint and giving them an option to donate and reduce their carbon footprint by adopting trees.
What it does
So using our app
- You would be able to check your weekly carbon footprint and calculate it.
- Get suggestions as to how you can reduce your carbon footprint.
- Compete with your friends and get ranking as to who has a lesser carbon footprint.
- Donate to organizations who can plant trees on your behalf.
How we built it
We used Figma to design and build a mockup.
Challenges we ran into
We spent a great deal of time understanding how we can make our app be used by individuals who can then spread awareness and recommend it to their friends and family and this is how we came up with the idea of a ranking system thus making it more competitive and user friendly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are really proud of how the overall app came about and how much we learned about rainforests.
What we learned
We learned a lot about carbon footprint and what are the causes and also how rainforests play a huge role in reducing it.
What's next for Reforest Nation
We as a team of app developers would like to work on this app and launch it in play store.
