Inspiration
Team Expiatio was inspired by many sources, including Liam Vicker's SSTWL (Refinoc), The Bible (CAIN), and Indico Park for Cain's backstory.
What it does
Our app aims to teach young adults and teenagers about the dangers of the internet, and how to keep one's self safe online. Our app helps engage the user using a unique story and a rather comedically sketchy faux company 'Refionic', using humor to help the user retain the information.
How we built it
Team Expiatio used Code.org to create the app. It was, thus, programmed in JavaScript. Using a mix of blocks and text programming allowed us to more efficiently create the app.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges we faced was the lack of manpower and everyone showing up. Some of our members ended up being sick and unable to work on the app with the others so we had to improvise and assign extra work to others, especially the Team Captain.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite the obscene number of setbacks our team had faced, we still managed to persevere until the end with our app in a mostly presentable state. As this is my first time working on a project of this scale, it's completion alone is an accomplishment I am proud of, and one we are proud of.
What we learned
Even though we have had some misfortune within our team there were some important things that we have learned throughout this experience, we have learned things such as communication, problem solving and workplace skills. I, personally, have learned what programming is, and it certainly seems much less alien to me now. Additionally, I have learned basic UI design skills, and team management methods.
What's next for Refionic
Admittedly, I have no plans to continue this project after submission. Refionic will end with this competition.
