Inspiration
For the first time in their lives, students moving into dorms are faced with the challenges that come with sharing a living space with either friends or strangers. This can be a difficult situation for students to navigate as they deal with: Splitting the chores: Deciding who is responsible for what. Communication: Making sure everyone is on the same page. Confrontation: Calling out issues in a roommates behaviour.
What it should do
Made for people who live with other people in the same living space Keeps track of who does (or should be doing) what chores at what time It is a concrete, quantitative way of making sure each person does an equal amount of chores instead of remembering who did the chore last time Push notifications that remind users of what chores they’re supposed to be doing Chores streak feature Share a picture of your room every week to friends to maintain streak/gain points? Friending feature This is important as having friends who are also using the same app will encourage you to actually do your chores on time by peer pressure and fear of judgment For specifically the taking out trash chore, the user has to take a picture of their trash bin and have OpenCV determine if the trash is empty (optional toggle) This toggle would better encourage users to not try to cheat themselves
How we built it
React Native, React, Full Stack, Figma, MySQL, NGROK Service
Challenges we ran into
Time, React Native
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were ambitious, and attempted to implement our backend using Node.js and MySQL, even in the React Native framework
What we learned
We learned how to use MySQL to add databases for our apps
What's next for Refine
Implement back-end features that allow for interaction between users over the internet such photo sharing and adding friends/connections
