Inspiration
Changing a compulsive habit rarely fails because someone does not know what to do. It often fails in the small space between an urge and an automatic response. ReesetMe was created for that moment: a private, compassionate companion that helps a person pause, understand what is happening, and choose their next action with more intention.
We wanted to move the conversation away from shame and perfect streaks. A difficult moment is not a verdict. It is useful information about triggers, context, and what kind of support helps.
What ReesetMe does
ReesetMe lets each person choose the behavior they want to work on, including porn use, masturbation, smoking, or drinking. The home experience makes it easy to say “I have an urge” and start a short reset flow. The app asks for context such as intensity and trigger, then offers a practical next step and supportive coaching.
The AI coach adapts its tone and suggestions to the selected recovery focus. Daily check-ins and insights help users notice patterns without grading themselves. A growing tree turns small choices into a visible sense of progress, while reminders make support available at the moments a user chooses. A seven-day full-access trial lets people experience the complete product before choosing a ReesetMe Plus subscription.
How we built it
The mobile app is built with React Native and Expo. A production Node.js and TypeScript API runs on Google Cloud Run with MongoDB for user and recovery data. A separate Python and FastAPI service provides the coaching layer. RevenueCat powers the in-app subscription flow, entitlement state, and purchase restoration across the product. The backend also includes authentication, rate limiting, validation, secure credential handling, and webhook processing.
Challenges we faced
The hardest part was designing a recovery experience that is useful during an emotional moment while keeping sensitive data private. We also had to keep trial access, RevenueCat entitlements, account state, and app behavior consistent across sign-in, cancellation, restoration, and interrupted checkout flows. We chose small, calm interactions over noisy gamification and built the product around curiosity rather than punishment.
What we learned
The best intervention is often the one that is available quickly, feels non-judgmental, and gives a person one manageable action. We also learned that monetization needs to be part of the product architecture from the beginning: the free trial, subscription state, backend permissions, and purchase recovery all need to agree.
What's next
We plan to add stronger personalization from longitudinal patterns, more evidence-informed exercises, better localization, and a broader library of support resources. ReesetMe is not a replacement for professional care. It is a practical companion for people who want a kinder way to build change into everyday life.
