Inspiration
We noticed how most people only see one version of a news story and form opinions without context. With reels becoming the way we consume content, we wanted to combine short-form media with real transparency.
What it does
Reel2Real takes trending topics, pulls in multiple articles, and turns them into quick reels. Each reel shows an unbiased summary, sentiment and bias scores, and lets users vote — with votes stored on-chain for transparency.
How we built it
We used Serper to gather articles, OpenRouter for summarization, Deepgram for voiceovers, and Pexels for visuals. On the blockchain side, we integrated Solana wallets (Phantom/Solflare) to record bias votes.
Challenges we ran into
Summarization was tricky with limited article snippets, handling API limits was tough, and making blockchain interactions smooth for first-time users took work.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a working reel-style news app that doesn’t just summarize, but gives people a say in judging bias — and stores it transparently on-chain.
What we learned
How difficult bias detection really is, how to build a reel-friendly UX for news, and how to integrate Solana wallets into a simple web app.
What's next for Reel2Real
Smarter bias detection, more personalization as people interact, and eventually turning Reel2Real into a go-to platform for fast, trustworthy news.
