Inspiration

Our inspiration was the Tomodachi game and Duolingo. When we decided on the water theme, sea critters and Tomodachi just made so much sense together, as we could care for a sea critter as the pet. Duolingo was another idea, as we wanted to bring an educational aspect to our project.

What it does

our website is a conservation hub for aquatic ecosystems, bringing awareness and educating the population about the importance of clean oceans. On the website, we’ve included what the company stands for and an interactive game to help those who are unfamiliar with our initiative gain knowledge of the oceans, with incentives of earning points and redeeming prizes The game itself is based on a Tomodachi, so in our version, you care for one of two sea animals, as well as help them clean the ocean. They also try to teach you facts about the sea.

How we built it

We divided the team into two, two of us working on the design element (frontend) and the other two working on the code, mainly our game (backend). We used mainly HTML, CSS, and Javascript to create the game while using Figma to design our site. Procreate was used to create elements of both

Challenges we ran into

-Most of us were first-time coders, we definitely needed to work extra hard if we wanted to get something done. Many small errors stole lots of time away from us. -Since I’m a first-time figma user, I spent most of my time trying to navigate the user interface and how it works. once I managed to figure it out, there were problems with creating the website, such as figuring out how to create a static background

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm definitely proud of just having a complete product. While it doesn't work fully the way we intended, it is still something we worked hard on, and we should be proud of our first project as coders.

What we learned

-We learned it’s not easy to create and prototype a website and its interactive content, especially with little to no experience with coding. the hackathon gave us an opportunity to explore different software and tips in order to create a better coding experience

What's next for Reef Rescue

We hope to implement used for the points users collect. So using the points they gather, they can customize their profile or even potentially donate to great causes. We would also love to fully flesh our game, and add more features to make it a true Tomodachi experience.
