Inspiration
We were inspired to tackle educating about sustainability because of the looming threat of climate change. We wanted to turn the education into a game because we thought it would engage younger users much easier.
What it does
Our website currently has the framework for our overall purpose, with a page for the game as well as an education page and a page with links to more resources. There is no game currently implemented but we have pictures of what we plan to have it look like.
How We Built It
We created a GitHub repository and wrote HTML and CSS files for the basic framework of the website then uploaded the files to Microsoft Azure's storage account feature.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into the challenge of time because we were only able to work over Saturday and Sunday morning due to other commitments so we were challenged to figure out what we could pull off in a short amount of time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of hosting the website properly in Azure because it took several tries to sort through the Azure tutorials and get it uploaded properly. We're proud of creating drawings to convey our ideas when we were unable to implement any code for the game.
What we learned
We learned how to host a static website in Microsoft Azure as well as how to properly format pictures with CSS.
What's next for Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
We plan to try to build the actual game in JavaScript with the overall board game style and each mini game that the user will encounter. We also would love to implement a multiplayer feature where different users can play minigames against each other and see their scores in a leaderboard. Additionally, we hope to use the SQL database feature in Azure for storing game data and implement the website in the static web apps section, where we can add our GitHub repository for easier updating of the website.
