Inspiration
To raise awareness for economic inequality by placing our audience into simulations of living life as an individual from a different gender, race, region, background and helping them understand how these uncontrollable factors could impact their life.
What it does
It challenges the audience with a question first. Upon scrolling, the audience will find out the answer to the question and hopefully gain interest for investigating just exactly how unequal wealth distribution can be on our planet. Then, we will prompt the audience to engage in an interactive game which reveals the median income and percentage of poverty based on the characteristics of an individual they have chosen. On the next page, the audience will be exposed to how their spending distributions will differ based on different income brackets in which they are in. Through this, we hope to engage our audience into thinking "what if I was born as ____" and come to the realization of the unfairness in our society. At the end of our webpage, we provide a resource base for audience to explore more information regarding this topic and ways they can make an impact as well.
How we built it
We build the website through a combination of HTML, CSS, and Javascript. We used HTML to build the framework for our site and the text displayed. We used CSS to alter fonts, spacing, and format the information in a way that will most likely appeal to our audience. We used Javascript to generate results for our simulation!
