User Research

The brief gives us problems and ways to solve an in-flight entertainment experience. However, our group wanted to gather more intel to further support our design decisions. We began with a small survey so we could see what content people were interested in when using in-flight entertainment–movies were byfar the most popular. Next, we performed competitive and comparative audits where we saw what existing companies were doing well and ways that we could improve our experience. Finally, we conducted two user interviews to gather insights on prevailing issues people might come across when using in-flight entertainment.

What it does

Redios is an in-flight entertainment system that aims to solve the issue of being unable to find the content you want to watch and finding content with a language barrier. We begin with an onboarding survey that gathers information to better tailor the content within the entertainment page (Movies, TV shows, etc.). We also consider what other languages the user speaks and provide content filtering for content that has subtitles and audio available in the user's preferred languages. Finally, we implement a system that allows users to see what others within their flight are working on.

Challenges we ran into

  • Balancing this project with our academic work ## Accomplishments that we're proud of
  • We managed to finish an MVP of our interface.

What we learned

  • How to work under immense time constraints
  • Knowing when to throw away certain ideas or aspects of the project that are less relevant or unimportant within the brief
  • How to conduct user interviews in order to assist our decision-making.

What's next for Redio

  • Reconsider the interactions available.
  • Refine the visual design.
  • Finish the rest of the pages we could not get to.
