Inspiration
Our inspiration for RedFlag stemmed from a deep concern about the safety and well-being of students in schools. The increasing prevalence of bullying incidents highlighted the need for a proactive solution that could empower students to seek help and support.
What it does
RedFlag is an innovative app designed to create a safer school environment. It enables students to easily connect with teachers and counselors, report bullying incidents anonymously, and engage in confidential chats for emotional support. The app aims to foster a sense of security and encourage open communication.
How we built it
Building RedFlag was a collaborative effort. We formed a diverse team comprising developers, designers, and education specialists. We followed agile development methodologies to ensure rapid iteration and improvement. Security and privacy were paramount, and we integrated robust data protection measures. The app was developed currently for Android platforms and we used JotForm for a majority of out app.
Challenges we ran into
Building RedFlag presented a range of challenges. From coding complexities requiring robust scalability issues to addressing platform-specific issues on Android, we navigated technical hurdles. Within our team, there were lively discussions about the app's design. Some team members leaned towards a minimalist approach, emphasizing simplicity and ease of use, while others advocated for a more feature-rich design. We also encountered technical hurdles related to ensuring the app's performance and reliability. Despite these multifaceted challenges, our team's expertise and dedication led to RedFlag's successful development, serving our mission to create a safer school environment.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're immensely proud of the successful creation of RedFlag and its possibility of positive and helpful impact on student safety.
What we learned
Throughout the project, we learned the importance of user-centered design and the value of mental health in the foundation of our society, and that improving it has drastic effects across the board.
What's next for RedFlag
In the future, we will try to implement it in schools around us and create more accounts. Currently it is functional on android systems, but we want everyone to have access on other platforms (such as iOS) in the future.
