Inspiration
I was walking down the hallway of my high school when I saw a kid in school, being bullied. They were taunting him, pushing him around, and laughing at him. I wanted to do something, but I didn't know what to do. I looked around for a teacher or someone who could help, but there nobody. This inspired me to create an app that would help invigorate students to become upstanders rather than bystanders.
What it does
It allows for any student to easily and quickly report a bullying incident. Additionally, it has communication features with a trusted counselor, which can be accessible at any time.
How we built it
We used AppHive to develop the prototype for the application.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into paywalls as well as user-unfriendly code that slowed down our progress. Additionally, the pages were difficult to link together.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of developing an app that can help students' mental health.
What we learned
We learned how important mental health is the foundation for our society, and that improving it has drastic effects across the board.
What's next for RedFlag
In the future, we will try to popularize it in schools and create more accounts. Currently it is functional on android systems, but we want everyone to have access on multiple platforms in the future.
