Inspiration

Redeploy was inspired by survival games like Minecraft and Muck.

We wanted to create a survival game that had a clear story and objective rather than simply surviving forever. In Redeploy, players must work together to rebuild a crashed aircraft and escape the island, giving them a long-term goal to work towards.

What it does

Redeploy is a survival game that had a clear story and objective rather than simply surviving forever. The game redefines what we are used to playing on mobile. So many teams use the same loops and we wanted to create something different and Redeploy does just that.

How we built it

We started by creating a Game Design Document and planning the player journey.

We then developed visual concepts, gameplay mockups, and a production plan to bring the idea of Redeploy to life.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was creating a unique idea that stood out from other survival games.

We also had to find a balance between survival mechanics and story progression while keeping the game suitable for mobile devices.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Submitting this concept in time was a big accomplishment. We didn't want to pitch something unless we had a unique idea. For awhile we didn't have one. Then a week ago we had the idea and worked on documentation. We didn't want to rush documentation so a few dedicated days towards building was necessary. We are proud we got it done in that time frame without sacrificing on quality!

What we learned

We learned how challenging it can be to design a game that is both fun and replayable.

As young developers who primarily create VR games, designing a mobile game was a valuable learning experience. It pushed us to think differently about gameplay, progression, and player experience while expanding our understanding of game design as a whole.

What's next for Redeploy

Really depends, we want to test traction on the idea. If we win, we will be using some of the prize money to perform a proper market validation test. After the test we will either continue with the project or adjust it based on feedback so that it is something players want.
