Inspiration

We love how Reddit communities each have their own unique culture. Titles of posts can feel perfectly at home in one subreddit but totally out of place in another. We wanted to build a fun and social way for people to discover new communities and test how well they really know Reddit.

What it does

RedditGuessr shows a real Reddit post title and lets players guess which subreddit it belongs to from multiple choices. Points are awarded for accurate predictions and streaks unlock higher difficulty. The game celebrates deep community knowledge and rewards exploration of unfamiliar spaces.

How we built it

We used the Reddit Developer Platform to run interactive gameplay directly inside Reddit. A backend service collects post data, filters out sensitive content, and delivers fresh examples for each round. Scoring and player state are stored securely so users can return and continue playing. The user interface is designed to be accessible on both mobile and desktop. We integrated Kiro to simplify deployment and improve our developer workflow.

Challenges we ran into

Balancing difficulty was tricky because Reddit content varies significantly across subreddits. We had to prevent spoilers from comments while still providing enough context for informed guesses. Ensuring fast load times and preventing repeated posts for active players also required thoughtful caching and state management.

Accomplishments that we are proud of

We created a polished and playful experience that feels native to Reddit. We added a dynamic leaderboard that motivates friendly competition. We also made sure the design welcomes both longtime Redditors and newcomers curious about unfamiliar communities.

What we learned

We gained experience with the Reddit Developer Platform and learned how to design interactions that fit into existing social flows. We refined our skills in content filtering, probability based question generation, and rapid iteration with real user feedback. We also learned to use Kiro effectively to automate testing and deployment.

What is next for RedditGuessr

We plan to add multiplayer community events where entire subreddits can compete together. We want to introduce special themed rounds such as food week or tech week. We will also expand accessibility features and explore localization. As Reddit evolves so will RedditGuessr, bringing more discovery and fun to the platform.
