Reddit's Mood

Reddit's Mood is an interactive way to visualize the state of the world through the lens of social media by gauging the emotions of posts in real-time from countries across the world.

Inspiration

We were inspired to make Reddit's mood because we wanted to create something that would show us what the world was thinking at a glance.

What it does

Our project scrapes data from Reddit using their API and then processes it using Gemini to figure out the intensity and nature of the emotions in the posts.

How we built it

We used Django, Vultr, and Gemini to code the back end. We used Framer and Spline to create the front-end for the website.

Challenges we ran into

Had difficulties implementing APIs. We had issues with getting our project up and running live on the web. We also had trouble creating a 3D planet in Spline. We took it upon ourselves as beginners to use all our tools to their fullest potential.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

WE DID ITTTTT (at 7 am). Making the reddit posts and emotions finally show up on the globe was a breakthrough moment.

What we learned

We learned to work as a team to develop something together using tools we had never used before.

What's next for Reddit's Mood

We plan to improve the design and to get more accurate readings in the future.
