Inspiration
My main inspiration comes from Clash of Clans. I wanted to combine my web development skills with a city-building game, and this hackathon felt like the perfect chance to bring that idea to life.
What it does
Reddit Rivals is a multiplayer city-building RPG set on a massive shared island. Grow your town, gather resources, and defend against enemies. Visit other players’ towns to trade or form alliances, and watch your small settlement rise into a legendary power.
How we built it
It’s built on Reddit Web using React and Phaser 2D, along with a collection of free assets.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I love how the game turned out, and all the amazing functionality I could bring to the game, using reddit APIs. The fact that a community can build alongside feels pretty awesome.
What's next for Reddit Rivals
The roadmap includes:
- Smoother UI and bug fixes
- More types of items and buildings
- Smarter NPC logic
- Potential real-time multiplayer
- Custom skins and cosmetic upgrades
