Inspiration

I love nostalgic 90's games, like Where's Waldo and Mad Libs. I work part-time as a STEM/Robotics teacher for kids ages 6 - 9, and I can't believe how many silly, fun games we took for granted as kids! Where's Waldo was a personal favorite of mine during long car rides, beach days, and playground fun. I have found a few recent builds of it the game on GitHub and other Dev platforms, but the UI is ugly and crowded. On top of that, it's basically impossible to find Waldo or the Wizard.

For this game, I wanted to recreate that fun, nostalgic experience of searching for characters as quickly as you can, but I thought it would be more interesting if they were cute aliens "among us" on Reddit. I think other Redditers will enjoy this game, It's competitive, fun, and silly - making it perfect for Reddit.

What it does

Reddimposters is available to play on The ReddImposters Subreddit. Users can visit the pinned post - or create a new post from the menu - to enjoy the game.

How we built it

  • Bolt.new
  • Devvit Tools
  • Typescript
  • Git

Challenges I ran into

  • Bolt's understanding of Devvit platform caused a lot of issues
  • Devvit Bolt Experimental Template caused a great deal of issues and bugs any time an update was issued

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

  • Being patient and not giving up even though the Bolt AI was having a hard time with Devvit tools

What I learned

  • Game dev is simple when I use the tools I'm familiar with. I went into this thinking Bolt was going to make it easier, but at times it made it harder. I had to really be careful and thorough with my prompts

What's next for ReddImposters
