Inspiration Every job application leaks a life story: salary history, exact dates, references, personal details. Recruiters and AI screening tools hoard it. But a hiring decision only needs a few verified facts. We built ZK Resume so candidates can prove "I qualify" without surrendering "who I am."
What it does A candidate uploads a resume, which is parsed locally and never leaves the device. They select which claims to prove, like "5+ years of experience." Midnight stores each claim as private state and generates a zero-knowledge proof that the claim meets a threshold. Recruiters receive a share link and see only verified badges, with no way to reconstruct the raw resume.
How we built it We wrote a Compact smart contract with a private claim ledger and a threshold-disclosure circuit. The Next.js frontend parses resumes locally, connects to the Midnight network through Midnight.js, and generates proofs via the local proof server. Candidates sign transactions with the Lace wallet.
How we use Midnight The raw resume never enters public state. Compact stores the private claim, the proof server generates a zero-knowledge proof that the claim exceeds a threshold, and only the boolean result is revealed on-chain. This is controlled disclosure: verify the fact, not the document.
Challenges we ran into Aligning the Compact compiler, proof server, and ledger versions took real time. Wiring the Lace wallet into the browser flow while keeping resume parsing fully local was the hardest UX constraint.
Accomplishments that we're proud of A working before/after demo: the full resume on one side, only verified badges on the other, with a real ZK proof bridging them.
What we learned Midnight's controlled disclosure is the right primitive for credentials, but real-world trust needs issuers who sign the underlying claims.
What's next Issuer-signed claims (universities and employers), revocable consent, and an AI recruiter that screens candidates using only verified attributes.
