In today's digital world, people create accounts on dozens of websites without realizing how much personal data they leave behind. Many users are unaware of inactive accounts, privacy risks, data breaches, and manipulative online practices. We wanted to build a solution that gives individuals complete visibility and control over their digital footprint. This inspired us to create REDACT, an AI-powered platform that helps users understand, protect, and manage their online presence.
💡 What it does
REDACT scans a user's digital footprint and provides a centralized privacy dashboard. It identifies connected accounts, highlights inactive or high-risk platforms, detects exposed personal information, provides privacy insights, and helps users clean up their online presence. It also includes AI-powered risk analysis, real-time privacy alerts, and a Consumer Risk Analyzer that detects dark patterns used by websites to manipulate users. The platform empowers users to make informed privacy decisions while improving their digital security.
🛠️ How we built it
We built REDACT as a full-stack web application with a modern responsive dashboard. The frontend was developed using modern web technologies, while the backend manages authentication, account analysis, and AI-powered privacy insights. We integrated AI models for risk assessment and designed modular components so future security features can be added without affecting the existing system. The UI was carefully designed to provide a simple yet informative experience.
⚠️ Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was handling authentication securely while working with multiple services. Integrating real-time privacy analysis without compromising user security was another major hurdle. We also faced challenges in designing an intuitive dashboard that could present complex privacy information in a way that is easy for users to understand. Balancing performance, scalability, and usability required multiple iterations throughout development.

Our next goal is to transform REDACT into a comprehensive digital privacy platform. We plan to improve real-time account discovery, automate account deletion workflows, enhance dark pattern detection with more advanced AI models, expand compliance support for global privacy regulations, provide personalized privacy recommendations, and deploy REDACT as a production-ready cloud platform capable of serving users worldwide. Our long-term vision is to make digital privacy management simple, intelligent, and accessible for everyone.
