Lyrics of the spoken-word track: Red Riding Hood Fights Back
-
Red Riding Hood pushing through a crowd, symbolizing her fight to reclaim her story. Video created in Veo3.
Inspiration
This project began with the idea of giving Red Riding Hood her own voice in a world where her story has been retold and reshaped without her permission. I wanted to explore what happens when she finally speaks back, not as a symbol or a trope, but as someone claiming her own identity. The mix of spoken word and music allowed me to show her strength, frustration, humour and truth in a modern way.
What it does
This piece brings spoken word and music together to create a strong and cinematic storytelling experience. It gives Red Riding Hood a clear voice and turns her from a simple character in a childhood tale into someone with emotion and intention. The visuals, the sound and the performance work together to show her reclaiming her story.
How we built it
I started by writing the spoken word performance and shaping it with rhythm and emotion. After that, I created the music and the visual style to support the message and the tone of her voice. AI tools helped generate the visual ideas, and the editing brought everything into one flowing piece. Each part was created to strengthen her voice and the feeling behind the project.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was to keep the idea fresh without using overused fairy tale images. I wanted the project to feel new and powerful while still keeping the connection to the original story. Another challenge was making the spoken word, the music and the visuals blend smoothly. I had to adjust pacing and tone many times to make sure everything felt connected.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud that this project brings spoken word, music and visual storytelling together in a way that feels bold and emotional. I am also proud of how the message comes through clearly without the visuals taking over. It feels like a true modern version of a classic story.
What we learned
I learned how to shape spoken word and music together so they feel like one piece instead of two separate parts. I also learned how powerful a familiar story can become when it is told from the character’s own point of view. Working with AI visuals taught me how to direct the style clearly so the visuals support the mood of the performance.
What's next for Red Riding Hood Fights Back The AI Did not Ask Permission
I want to explore more retold stories and give other characters their own voices. This idea can grow into a full series of spoken word and music pieces that bring new life to old stories. I also want to make the visuals even stronger and push the emotional style further in future projects.
